In the face of many current attempts to “stay relevant,” there is a growing desire for a historic faith that is rooted in the biblical and classical traditions of the church. The entire history of the church gives insights that help us understand how other committed Christians have sought to think and live the faith in other places and times. Our society is becoming more and more disconnected and people are longing for a sense of continuity, a sense of belonging to the faith of the early church fathers, the Reformers, and other historical figures. As we face a growing number of societal developments and cultural issues, the truth and wisdom of ancient creeds and practices help us see that the way to the future is through the past.
