We live in a time of spiritual transition, a time when many Christians are growing weary of a faith that is shaped by culture and the practices of the world. There is an increasing realization that many churches pay more attention to Hallmark’s holidays than to the events of the Christian year. Following the Christian calendar means that we are spiritually formed by the primary occasions of the life of Christ; every aspect of our spiritual journey points to him. Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Ascension Day, Pentecost, and other seasons all help shape our life of spirituality and pilgrimage toward union with God.
