IconsIn our culture that is permeated by media and technology, there is a growing awareness that people need more than just verbal teaching and propositions. The historical church has always used icons as a reflection of the life and teaching of the church. They tell stories that symbolically display the life of Christ in those who have become bearers of the Spirit of God in their own lifetime. Every attitude, pose, and color has a precise meaning that can inspire and inform those who view the icon. Each one of us has been made in the image of God and is an icon that is intended to show the artistic work that God does in our lives as we are transformed into the image of His Son. Of course, Jesus Christ is the ultimate icon, so every icon will remind us of Christ and of the wonders of the incarnation.
