This brings us to the second week of Advent. Last week we began learning from Jesus how to be fully human — even in weakness, needs, limitations, and ignorance. So this week we want to explore failure and why falling short is not always sin. Did Jesus ever fail? (Is it even okay to ask that question?) What does it mean to be fully human and yet fail to live up to our own expectations and desires (as well as the expectations of others)? What is happening when others fail to receive our good intentions and love? If Advent is about living full of hope and expectancy, we must also embrace failure, and Jesus teaches us how to fail, gracefully and without sin.
