Through the Bible with Poetry: Ecclesiastes
Jon’s thoughts: Somehow I thought that a Limerick would work well for a poem about vanity. Limericks can be so frivolous yet at the same time convey deep truths.
Ecclesiastes 8:15
Vanity
Eat, drink and be merry.
This is your lot, so do not tarry.
With joy in your heart,
It is time that you start.
Eat, drink and be merry.
Vanity, vanity; all is vanity.
Vanity, vanity; all is vanity.
The Preacher sought words of delight
He wrote words of truth; upright.
Vanity, vanity; all is vanity.
Fear the Lord, and so begins wisdom.
His voice to thee is so winsome.
To the fool it is folly,
Seeking only to be jolly.
The wise know from whence life comes.
